When I first started handling border
collies, I was very fortunate to acquire an experienced working dog and
proven producing bitch from Brian & Jacquie Ciancone of Sugar Loaf
Ranch, Kamloops. "Patch" was the foundation dog for their very
well-known
"BrynJac" line of working dogs. Her progeny were well-known
throughout the province, and "Patch" can be found in the pedigree of
many of today's successful British Columbia kennels and trial dogs.
Shortly after acquiring Patch, she was bred to my "Vic". "Tee" was the
result of this very special beginning, and also gave me my foundations
as a handler and breeder. I owe her a great debt for all that she
taught me, and for the wonderful legacy of her offspring.
FOUNDATION
BITCH:
MarCar Tempest ABCA 34565 "Tee"
Nov. 20/92 - March 5/05 {"Vic" Daughter}
"Tee"
spent most of her working life with Ray and Judy McColl on their ranch
in Rainier Alberta. "Tee"
partnered Ray in his work as brand inspector
on cattle ranges, or assisted Judy in her work as vet technician in
nearby Brooks veterinary hospital. "Tee"
was endowed with tremendous
courage, stock sense and biddability.
Additionally she was a great producing bitch, and many of her offspring
went on to notable trial careers, as well as went to work on many
western cattle ranches and sheep farms. In addition to producing my
current trial dogs "Ryan", "Geoff" and “Ceri”, "Tee" is also the mother
of "Rain", Bill Berhow's former top trial dog who placed sixth overall
at the US National Finals in Virginia in 1999, and mother of "Roy",
owned by Patricia Pedersen, who was the reserve Pro Novice Dog in the
2000 OSDS points standings, and
now
a successful Open dog.
After losing an eye from a cow kick at age 8 years, "Tee" returned home
to Metchosin to raise her last litter and to assist in sheep chores at
lambing time. This litter was exceptional by all standards; attesting
to the tremendous attributes of both parents.
For the last few years of her life, she was
the constant companion of veterinarian, Dr. Michele
Martin; accompanying her to many clinics throughout the area,
where 'Tee" resumed her old
role as ‘supervisor
and greeter’ to all she came in contact with. After a valiant struggle
with cancer, "Tee" was eased
from this life on March 5th 2005. She is missed greatly by her legion
of admirers, but has left a tremendous legacy in her offspring.
