Volunteer Heritage Activities

For the last thirty-five years, I have spent a great portion of my volunteer time in the heritage preservation field. I am a Past-President of the Hallmark Society, Victoria's oldest and largest heritage preservation organization. I have been an active volunteer for many years, including 15 as the volunteer Office Manager. I now hold the position of Administrative Director.

In 1996, I was elected a Director of the Heritage Society of British Columbia. I completed two years as Secretary/Treasurer and was elected President in 2000. For eight years, I was the Chair of the Awards Committee.

In 2004, I was elected to the Board of the Heritage Legacy Fund of British Columbia as a founding director and the first president. I served for five years, four as president. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance and guidance for community based heritage conservation in BC.

I was also President of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals. My duties included coordination of the Education and Research Committee and liaison with other national organizations. I am a founding director of the BC Association of Heritage Professionals.

Last fall, I was elected to the Board of Governors of the Heritage Canada Foundation, representing British Columbia. This position will put me in touch with heritage activities across Canada and further my knowledge of national issues.

I currently write a regular column in the Moss Rock Review, the neighbourhood magazine for Fairfield. The Heritage Detective investigates a different property each month, bringing the story to a wider audience. I also write on heritage for the Rockland Neighbourhood Association newsletter with a view to bringing the heritage message to this exclusive area.
