Henry HAYWARD was probably born in England about 1742 or 1745, possibly to William Hayward
of Cornwall. The later speculation comes from the English naming traditions of naming the first son after
the Mothers father (hence , George Griffith(s) HAYWARD) and the second son after the father of the father,
William HAYWARD being the second son of Henry HAYWARD.
Henry HAYWARD was a Private in the British Army. Records show that he was a foot soldier in the
54th Regiment of Foot.The date he joined is not known as there is a gap in the Regimental records from
Aug. 1770 to Apr. 1774, but they show him in Granard Ireland (now Co. Longford) in June 1770, Cork from
June 1774 to Apr. 1775 and Dingle July to Sept, 1775. In Aug.1776 his unit sailed for America
(aboard the "Lord North"). He was stationed at Statten Island, Rhode Island, New York Island, Paulus Hook,
Magowen Pass (York Island), and was "discharged" 21 Aug. 1783 at Statten Island.

Henry HAYWARD was acompanied by his wife, Isabella (GRIFFITH(S)). The Army allowed a small
number of wives to travel with the Regiments. I don't know where Isabella was from. A wifes lot was not great
as they were expected to do many domestic chores for the rest of the Regiment. George Griffith HAYWARD,
their 1st son, was born in Ireland and christened in St. Pauls Church, Dublin in 1773, and 2nd son, William,
born about 1775 . They came with Henry when his Regiment was sent to America during the Americian War
of Independance and the family moved to NS in 1783, after Henry was discharged the Army, and received a
land grant of 500 acres at Windsor Road Township, Hants Co., NS in Mar. 1784.
